Kids Under Cover – Cubby House Challenge

Congratulations to Matt Gibson Architecture + Design Ltd and Hartman Homes for winning The Best Architectural Design Award in the 2016 Cubby House Challenge! Atkar was excited to be part of this innovative initiative.

The winning Cubby House, aptly named ‘Pl-yground’, was constructed from Atkar’s Goldcore Light plywood and featured a Lavender-scented ceiling; a new product in our range, Organoid. Organoid is a decorative coating which incorporates a wide variety of raw materials from plants, fruits, herbs, spices. The Pl-yground design team chose the Organoid finish LAWENDL, a combination of Lavender Stalks and Blossoms. The Cubby also featured blackboard walls, a ball pit and fireman’s pole connecting the Cubby’s levels.

The Cubby House Challenge was an important fundraiser for Kids Under Cover; a charity devoted to preventing youth homelessness. It brings together members of the building industry to design, build and decorate highly creative and unique children’s cubby houses which were displayed and auctioned during the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) from 16-20 March 2016.

The Cubby’s raised more than $100,000 in the charity auction. Well done to everyone for their achievements, clever designs and hard work. We look forward to seeing next year’s creations.
