The Atkar Solution

A project that still catches our eye. Today, we’re revisiting a standout education project where heritage meets modern learning and acoustic design.

The Heritage Wing at Star of the Sea College, Brighton was the first stage of a larger masterplan by McGlashan Everist, transforming a collection of heritage buildings dating from the 1890s to the 1930s into a cohesive, connected and accessible learning environment.

Once a scattered cluster of buildings, the redevelopment brings the campus together through light-filled, flexible and inviting spaces, creating a more connected and welcoming learning environment. The result is a more cohesive and intuitive campus experience for students and staff, while respecting the site’s rich architectural history.

Playing its part overhead, Atkar’s Au.diLux brings together acoustic performance and architectural design. Featured throughout the project, the perforated fibre cement ceiling panels are paired with Integrated Acoustic Backing, providing a tough, durable lining with excellent acoustic properties. Versatile and performance-driven, the round-hole perforated system sits seamlessly within its heritage setting, supporting an exceptional environment for contemporary learning.
